Sheer Memories Bed and Breakfast - A Rich History
Welcome to Sheer Memories Bed & Breakfast overlooking the beautiful valley of the Lower Wisconsin River near Muscoda and Spring Green, in southwest Wisconsin. Dan and Bonnie Prohaska, Innkeepers, wish to share with you this special home and its amazing history. Spend some time at Sheer Memories on your own terms as a peaceful retreat, a base for touring, a rest stop on your hiking and biking routes, a connection with history or all of the above.
In 1887 the Scherer ("sheer") family of German immigrants settled in these hills, their home and gardens now the Sheer Memories B&B. Near Muscoda, Wisconsin, in sight of the beautiful valley of the Lower Wisconsin River, two Scherer generations raised crops and livestock on their 160-acre farm.
The airy structure and spacious rooms of their farmhouse still soak up the special light and atmosphere of southwestern Wisconsin's "Driftless" area. And Scherer family artists still inhabit the home through their preserved paintings, photographs, and other artifacts that decorate its rooms.
Flower gardens, some original to the settlement, grace Sheer Memories' ten acres of park like grounds. Hiking paths weave through woods and fields. From inside and outside the house, you'll see gentle hills rolling to the horizon. You'll hear birds, feel breezes. Here, nature and history have formed an unforgettable countryside. You can relax: it's the nineteenth century still.
Sheer Memories' historic setting offers contemporary comforts. While guest rooms come with period furnishings, they provide a private bath with shower, a sitting area, a pillow-top mattress (king or queen bed), air-conditioning, wireless Internet, plush robes, and a hearty country breakfast. A guest cottage suitable for a couple or small family is also available.
